The Saline Farmers Market was created in 2000, after then-Mayor Gretchen Driskell attended an April 26th workshop in Ann Arbor. “Farmers Markets, The Basics” presented by the Michigan Municipal League, with speaker John Rasmussen, MAI, Moderator, Consultant and Ann Arbor Market Commission member, inspired her to bring fresh local food and a stronger economy to Saline. The market was launched with a trial run for three weeks that fall, with Nancy Crisp as the market manager. Her contributions to starting, organizing and properly equipping the market are still noted today.The role was passed down to Christine Easley in 2016, then Jodi Hilberer in 2018. Dana Turner-Queen has taken over in 2021.

 In 2001 the Saturday Market started its first full season, serving area residents and visitors May through October each year at its convenient location in downtown Saline. (100 S Ann Arbor st, Lot #4) In 2010 a Tuesday Market began its first full season from June through September at the Saline District Library. This market proved unviable and was subsequently closed in 2018. However, there has been a renewal in interest in a weekday market at the summer lot, so stay tuned!

The Indoor Winter Market started its first season that runs from November through April located at 199 W. Michigan Ave in 2010, as well. Since then, we have been dedicated to bringing year round fresh produce and local foods to the Salline area. The Winter Market relocated to Liberty School in November of 2011 to provide more room for more vendors and customers. The Liberty School is hosting the Indoor Market again this year, for which we are so grateful! 

The Saline Farmers Market is looking forward to its 22nd year of being a fixture of the Saline community and putting local food on local tables.
