Water Quality Survey

If you notice rust colored water in your home, please report it using this survey tool. Reporting the incident here is the best way for our staff to know when and where we are having issues. If you have quesitons or concerns, please contact city staff: DPW Director Larry Sirls or City Manager O'Toole.

Drinking Water Treatment Plant

The City’s WTP began operation in May of 2005. The plant removes iron and manganese through the use of greensand filters. Hardness is removed using reverse osmosis membranes. The plant has a daily maximum output capacity of 3.5 million gallons per day and produces on average 1.2 million gallons per day. Routine water testing is performed daily and monitoring for contaminants is done on a regular basis to insure the quality of our water.

The City’s Annual Water Quality Report is available in PDF form. This report shows our water quality and what it means. We want our valued customers to be informed about their water utility. The City of Saline routinely monitors for contaminants in your drinking water according to Federal and State laws. In 2009, our system had no violations. If you have any questions about this report or concerning your water utility, please contact Mark Fechik at 944-2003.

Wastewater Treatment Plant

The Wastewater Plant treats an average of 1 million gallons of wastewater per day. Treatment is accomplished through a combination of biological, chemical and physical processes. Rotating Biological Contactors, settling tanks, ferric chloride and chlorine addition are some of the treatment processes used. Our water is tested every day for several pollutants and is discharged to the Saline River. Limitations are established in our discharge permit, which is issued by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.

The Wastewater Treatment Plant is undergoing updates. Below are the Status Reports, the most recent at the top. If you have any questions about the status of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, contact City Manager O'Toole at cotoole@cityofsaline.org. We will also be giving montly reports on water quality, below are water quality reports, the most recent at the top of the list.
