The Saline Farmers’ Market was created in 2000. On April 26, 2000 Mayor Gretchen Driskell attended a workshop in Ann Arbor called “Farmers’ Markets, The Basics” presented by the Michigan Municipal League, with speaker John Rasmussen, MAI, Moderator, Consultant and Ann Arbor Market Commission member.
Mayor Driskell implemented the idea and the Saline Farmers’ Market was launched with a trial run for three weeks in the fall. In 2001 the Market started its first full season and serves area residents and visitors May through October each year at its convenient location in downtown Saline.
Nancy Crisp helped develop the Farmers’ Market and has been Market Manager from the beginning. She continues to coordinate and expand the Market each season. “I love arriving at the Market early each Saturday morning and seeing all of the beautiful flowers and crafts, fresh produce, and yummy baked goods,” Nancy says.
