Saline District Library

Saline District Library is located at 555 N. Maple Rd., adjacent to Saline Middle School.  It serves the residents of the Saline Area School District with a collection of 120,000 items, programming for all ages, and high-speed Internet on Library computers or with Wi-Fi access.

Library offerings include books, large print materials, DVDs, music CDs, audiobooks, newspapers, magazines, and more.  Downloadable audiobooks, ebooks, movies, music, TV shows, and comics are available online.  Internet access and online tools provide patrons with the most current information available, as well as access to many important Saline historical resources.  Programming is offered for all ages, including story hours, book discussion groups, summer reading programs, craft workshops, lectures, and more.  Saline District Library participates in MeLCat, the statewide online interlibrary loan system, where patrons can place their own requests for books not owned by this Library.  Patrons can also access their Library account information and pay fines or fees online with a credit card.

The 33,000 square-foot facility has 32 computer stations with Internet access, Wi-Fi throughout the building, and public access printers, copiers, and scanners.  There are three small group study rooms.  The Brecon Room is available as a public meeting space for non-profit community groups, and reservations may be requested online.  The Saline Local History Room features a variety of resources for historians and displays of the Meredith Bixby Marionettes.  The Library features beautiful artwork throughout the building and grounds, most created by students from Saline Area Schools, and a changing display of paintings and photography by local adult artists.

The Friends of the Saline District Library operate The Corner Book Shop, where gently-used items are sold.  All proceeds support programs and special projects at the Library.  The Shop is open most hours the Library is open.  The Friends also support the Library with many volunteer hours working for the book shop or for other Library purposes.

The Library is situated on 14 acres in the heart of Saline.  Many windows provide wonderful views, and a nature trail leads visitors across a bridge and through seven acres of wooded wetlands with 1,100 linear feet of wood-chipped trails.  It boasts access to the .58-mile-long Leslee Niethammer Memorial Library Trail, a 10’ wide paved path that traverses through Brecon Park and the Library woods.  The Library has been recognized many times for its beautiful gardens, including a rain garden, a butterfly garden, and the Peace Pole Garden.  The Wild Bird Discovery sculpture installation provides a peaceful home to a wide variety of birds and showcases poetry samples from local students.  The Library is home to a solar array made up of 225 solar panels that improve energy efficiency.  Energy use offset from the solar modules can be monitored on the Library’s website.
