North Ann Arbor Street Local Historic District

The North Ann Arbor Street Local Historic District, designated in 2004, is located north of the main “four corners” of downtown Saline.  The boundaries are shown on the attached map, beginning at the south end of North Ann Arbor Street with 101 North Ann Arbor Street on the west side and 200 North Ann Arbor Street (Historic Union School building) on the east side of the street. The local historic district continues north and includes all properties and buildings on the east and west sides of the street, ending at 416 on the east side and 419 on the west side of the street. This district is contiguous to the Saline Depot Historic District, located at 402 North Ann Arbor Street.

The North Ann Arbor Street Local Historic District contains many of Saline's prime examples of architectural styles including (but not limited to) Queen Anne, Gothic Revival, Italianate and Folk Victorian.  Several homes located in this district are associated with significant persons in Saline’s history, including state and local politicians, prominent merchants and commercial female photographer, Lucretia Gillette, who lived and worked in Saline from 1858–1890. Also included are the buildings that were specifically designed to function as Saline’s first post office and library (101 and 105, respectively).
