Planning Commission

Nine members/three-year terms. The Planning Commission makes and adopts a master plan for physical development, including any areas outside its boundaries that, in the commission's judgment, bear relation to city planning. Meets the 2nd & 4th Wednesday at 7:00 P.M

Historic District Commission

 

The Historic District Commission establishes and oversees historic districts and fosters preservation, with the intent of preserving each district's unique character. Meets the 2nd Thursday - 7:00 P.M in Council Chambers. Saline's local historic districts were established between 2002 and 2007. The districts represent significant early patterns of growth in Saline.  Many of the residences within the districts are associated with significant persons in Saline's history, including state and local politicians, prominent merchants, and Saline's founder, Orange Risdon.

Youth Council

The City of Saline offers community youths the opportunity to "let their voices be heard in the community". As a regular City Commission, the Saline Youth Council is committed to improving the quality of life for Saline area teenagers by hosting fun activities, participating in youth symposiums, volunteering, and more. All teens living in the Saline School District in 8th - 12th grades are welcome to apply to be part of the action. 

Some of the activities and events the Saline Youth Council offers are an annual middle school overnight lock-in, a middle school mentorship program with activities at the Saline Rec Center once a month, Saline Youth of the Year Award program, volunteering at the Saline Evangelical Home monthly bingo, community events downtown and with other City commissions and Saline Parks & Recreation.  Members participate in leadership programs and attend youth symposiums with other teen councils.

Environmental Commission

The Saline Environmental Commission takes on several projects throughout the year, designed to directly improve and protect the quality of our community's natural environment, as well as educate the citizens of Saline and surrounding townships on how they can take action in their own homes to ensure that Saline continues to be an outstanding place to live, work and play for many generations to come.
