Curtiss Park
440 W. Michigan Ave.
At 50 acres, Curtiss Park is the second largest of Saline’s municipal parks. It is located along the South side of Michigan Avenue, across the road from Mill Pond Park and bordering Oakwood Cemetery. Access to the park is from an entrance off of Michigan Avenue, whether by car or sidewalk. For those driving to the park, there is a massive 150 space parking lot on site. The park is handicapped accessible.
Described as “four parks in one,” Curtiss Park boasts several amenities and opportunities. The park features two tennis courts, one baseball field, playground equipment, picnic areas, a rentable pavilion, wooded trails included on the National Trail Registry, walking paths, Saline River public access for river-related activities, dedicated nature interpretive areas, an observation deck over the river, and portable restrooms. Curtiss Park also the home of the Max Adler Interpretive Trail, created by Girl Scout Troop 1131 in 2005.
There are many possible activities to enjoy at Curtiss Park. To list just a few, one can walk along the trails and paths, fish in the river, play catch or toss a frisbee with the kids, have a picnic or other gathering at the pavilion, go cross-country skiing in the winter, or make use of the swings and other playground equipment. Come down to Saline’s Curtiss Park to experience a great trip with nature.
Note: Curtiss Park does not have electricity or permanent restroom facilities. Parking is not located on the same side of river as the pavilion. (There is a foot bridge connecting the parking side and the Pavilion area.)
